We left on a Monday after school and spent our first two nights in Assisi which is about 4 1/2 hours away. The kids did great on the drive which was good because we hit a little traffic getting there. We checked into our hotel in Assisi which was really nice and roomy! The next day we spent exploring Assisi which is now one of our favorite spots that we have visited. When you hear about the hill towns of Italy they are NOT kidding! We spent all day going up and down hills. It was beautiful and there were great views of the olive groves and surrounding areas. Here are some pictures from Assisi
From Assisi we headed to Montepulciano in Tuscany. It was a gorgeous drive and again the kids did great in the car which always helps. Unfortunately when we arrived in the town it was raining. We stopped in a little cafe to have something warm to drink and while in there we saw all these posters about the Twilight movies. Aparently this was the town where they shot the Italy scenes for New Moon. Well, then I had to take many more pictures of the town square. We also stopped in a little winery to taste and buy some local wine. After checking out the town for a bit we went to check into our room for the night. Here are some pictures from our day.
The next day we were off to the town I wanted to visit most, Siena. It was supposed to be one of the most beautiful Tucan towns and have a great square! Well sometime along the drive we were warned that we might be called back to Aviano and the vacation cut short! So we stepped on the gas and headed to Siena to see if we could at least get a peek. We arrived and parked and hiked up into town. When we got to the square it was so beautiful and the kids had fun feeding the pigeons. Then we got the call to head home. :( I was very diappointed to have our last little family time cut short. Here are the few pictures that we were able to get before heading home. I didn't even get to see the church! Don't worry I will be back there very soon!
