Siena and Roma

We took Stephanie and Jessica on quite the tour of Italy!  We left our house on Friday morning and drove to Siena.  Connor was NOT a fan of riding in the car, but we hung in there and arrived at our beautiful bed and breakfast in Siena!  We hiked up into town for some sightseeing, gelato, and dinner.  Yes, in that order!  Gelato before dinner!  The kids had a fun time chasing pigeons in the town square called Il Campo.  It was a gorgeous evening and we had a great time hiking up and down the streets of Siena.  We did some shopping and visited the church.  We had some delicious gelato and found a great little pizza place for dinner!  It was so yummy!

In Il Campo

On Saturday we took the train to Florence to visit David.  The kids and I just strolled around town and visited the Disney Store while Steph and Jess went to Accademia to see David.  We didn't spend too long in Florence because it was a crazy HOT day and the kids were tired.  We took the train back to Siena to have some dinner.

On Sunday we hopped on the train again and headed down to Rome for two nights.  Not a lot of time to visit this amazing city, but we made it work.  Luckily the kids enjoy riding on trains!  The kids were totally exhausted from the first two days of our trip, so we just decided to take it easy the first night.  We found a place for an early dinner and then turned in early for bed.  The kids got a great nights sleep and were ready for the next big day!

 St. Peter's Square

Monday morning we headed over to the Coliseum early to beat the crowd, but not everything went as planned.  First when we arrived at the Coliseum they happened to be closed for the first part of the day.  That left us with a few hours to kill before we could get in.  We walked around for a bit and had a fresh fruit break!  By the time we got back there was a HUGE line to get into the Coliseum!  It seems everyone had the same idea for the day.  We waited in line for a bit, but then realized that Stephanie and Jessica probably wouldn't make their time slot for the Vatican if we stayed to see the Coliseum.  So, we decided to head back to the hotel for naptime while they went to their tour and then we would try the Coliseum again in the evening.

This is when we had another complication.  Jessica was feeling very sick!  We are not sure if it was the heat or dehydration, but she was really not feeling well.  After a few bottles of water and juice we were able to get a cab back to our hotel, so that she could lay down.  She decided to skip the Vatican and have a nap with the kids.  So, that meant I got to go see the Vatican museums with Stephanie!  It was great and I am glad she didn't go because it was even hotter and more crowded in there!  After an early dinner we were able to make it back to the Coliseum which was totally empty at that point and we had the place to ourselves.  It was great and we really enjoyed it!  The next day we had  a very LONG trip home and got stuck in tons of traffic!  I won't go into that because it is not a good memory!

Overall we had a great trip with Stephanie and Jessica and I wouldn't have made the trip without them!  They were a huge help with the kids and it all ended too quickly.  We would love to have many more visitors and share this great experience with them!
